Terrorist Response Plans

As the United States continues its war on terror, the chances are high that sleeper cells within the United States will unleash a barrage of terrorist actions against our civilian population. This is not something our government has overlooked, but I do believe itís something our government has not done a good enough job preparing us for.

In March of 2003, Rod Paige, the Secretary of Education and Tom Ridge, Secretary of Homeland Security, start telling schools to review their disaster plans, and if they donít have a plan, to get one.

Iíd like to encourage businesses to do the same thing. And Iím totally serious. The type of warfare conducted by terrorists is new to our country: They attack civilians. Most of us do not have contingency plans in place for dealing with these types of attacks.

With personal safety being the primary concern, companies should have sufficient first aid supplies, strategies for evacuating or securing buildings, and plans for making sure everyone is accounted for. The idea of a drill may seem outrageous, but the lessons can be lifesaving.

Regardless of your place of work, it would be wise to have a contingency plan in place.
